About Matt

Matt Lihou is National Manager, Capital Projects at Beaver Process Equipment, working with EPC, EPCM and project teams on slurry piping for new plants and expansions. He joined in 2024 with more than 20 years' experience in technical support. Matt writes about what a slurry pipeline costs over the life of a mine, and how maintenance teams can turn repeat failures into a business case that management will approve. His Learning Hub articles compare lifecycle costs of unlined steel against rubber, HDPE and polyurethane-lined pipe. They also set out four steps to build a business case, including how to cost lost production. In one example, a reliability engineer at a WA gold mine showed that a single section of failing rubber-lined piping was costing $240,000 a year. Matt is based in Perth.
